Tigers Tab Siani on Minor League Deal Following Orioles Release

The Detroit Tigers have added outfielder Michael Siani to their organization on a minor league deal. The former Oriole, recently released by Baltimore, will report to Triple-A Toledo as he seeks to reclaim his footing in professional baseball.

Siani's path to Detroit has been circuitous. The Dodgers originally had him in their system before Baltimore claimed him off waivers in mid-May. With the Orioles, however, Siani spent most of his time at the minor league level rather than cracking the major league roster. That limited opportunity ultimately led to his release, opening the door for the Tigers to take a flyer on the young outfielder.

Starting over in Toledo. Siani now gets another chance to prove himself, this time in the Detroit organization. Playing at Triple-A provides the clearest path to the majors; if he produces at that level, injuries or roster gaps could create an opening for a call to the major league club.

For the Tigers, it's another low-cost, speculative signing designed to add depth to the organization. These kinds of minor league deals are a standard part of roster construction for teams managing payroll while still seeking upside. Siani will need to put together a strong showing in Toledo to work back into consideration, but the opportunity is there.
