White Sox Move On From Joe Rock, Acquire Jake Rogers

The White Sox made a pair of roster moves Wednesday, designating left-hander Joe Rock for assignment while officially claiming catcher Jake Rogers off waivers from the Red Sox. The transactions represent a shift in Chicago's catching depth chart and bullpen composition as the team navigates the stretch run of the season.

The Rock departure comes less than four months after the White Sox acquired him from Tampa Bay in May, sending infielder Oliver Dunn to the Rays in exchange. At 26 years old, Rock was supposed to add depth to a pitching staff in need of reinforcement. His time in Chicago, however, did not produce the results the organization hoped for, leading to this quick exit.

Rogers enters the picture as a veteran option behind the plate. The catcher was designated for assignment by Boston earlier this week after the Red Sox decided to move in another direction at the position. Chicago claimed him off waivers, though Rogers is out of options, meaning he must either stick on the active roster or clear waivers again if optioned.

For the White Sox, the move signals continued roster tinkering as they balance immediate roster needs with long-term roster flexibility. The catching position has been an area of focus for many teams, and adding a veteran with major league experience could provide insurance or competition depending on how the season plays out down the stretch.

From a betting perspective, catching depth rarely moves the needle on team totals or win projections in significant ways. However, the Rock designation removes a bullpen arm from availability, which could marginally affect relief pitcher workload expectations if injuries continue to mount on the South Side.
